Omoba Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko A.K.A. Adekunle Gold/AG Baby is a Nigerian Afropop Singer, Songwriter and Graphics designer. He came into limelight in 2014 after the release of his debut single “Sade” mixed by award winning singer and his wife “Simi”.

He is signed to YBNL records and is accredited to being the designer of the label’s Logo. In 2016, Adekunle Gold won the Best Alternative song Award at the Headies award, his first studio album “Gold” ranked number 7th of the world album charts. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition both local and International.

Early Life

Adekunle Kosoko was born on the 28th of January 1987 into the Royal family of Kosoko of Lagos State, he is a direct Nephew of the popular actor “Jide Kosoko” his father was Prince Hakeem Adeyemi Kosoko and his mother Mrs Kosoko,  they were both school teachers.

 Adekunle Gold is the only son of his parents and has 3 sisters. Although one died (Busayo) when she was still young from Heart complications.

Although his parents were Muslims, they gave their children freedom of practicing other religions, and it was in church during a pastor’s ministration that Adekunle got his inspiration to call himself the name “Adekunle Gold”. He was part of the junior choir in church and went on to join a band called “The bridge” with some of his church members, they recorded some songs before disbanding.

Adekunle Gold began his formative years in a public school in Lagos where he attained both Primary and secondary Education. He gained admission into the Lagos State Polytechnic in the arts and design department where he studied Graphic arts, Painting, and Sculpture, after which he continued his music career as a solo artiste.

Music Career

Adekunle Gold, was introduced into music at an early age and he was raised listening to the likes of King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey. He wrote his first song at the age of 15 after joining a band formed by his church members called “The Bridge”, which he later separated from.

Adekunle Gold, after posting an edited photoshop image of him hugging Tiwa Savage on social media, he was called the “King of Photoshop”.

He released “Sade”, on the 19th of December 2014, a cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life”, the song was mixed by his then Girlfriend and now wife “Simi”. The song rose to world acclaim and won the Best Alternative Song at The Headies Award in 2015.

After the release of “Sade”, Adekunle Gold started getting noticed by some record labels and one of those people was “Olamide” The CEO of YBNL records, Olamide signed Adekunle Gold into YBNL records on 5th March 2015, he released his first official single titled “Orente” through YBNL Nation and went on to release “Pick up” as well

Adekunle Gold was nominated as the Most Promising Act of the Year, at the 2015 City People Entertainment Awards and on 18 July 2016, Adekunle Gold disclosed the cover and his studio album song titled “Gold”.

The song”Gold”, was 16-track, with musical production from the following artiste; Pheelz, Masterkraft, B Banks, Sleekamo, Oscar and Seyikeyz. The album was released on 25 July 2016, three days before the original scheduled date of release.

Upon its release, it peaked at number 7 on the Billboard World Album Chart for the week of 13th August 2016. However, it was critically reviewed by contemporary music critics.

 In 2017 after  the expiration of his  2 years contract, Adekunle Gold left YBNL Nation Records label, he disclosed in an interview that it wasn’t his intentions to leave, but  YBNL Nation had a rule that after 2 years, no one can renew their contract, so he had no choice but to leave, he later unveiled his band called “The Seventy-nine (79th) Element” and his record label known as the “Afro Urban” in 2018.

In 2018, Adekunle Gold produced his  Sophomore Studio Album “About 30” under his record label “Afro Urban” and on the 15th January 2018 he became the brand ambassador for Unity Bank.

Adekunle Gold lost his father in 2019 and later shared an emotional tribute on his social media page to his late father, Prince Hakeem Adeyemi Kosoko who died on May 27, 2019, after an undisclosed illness.

In 2020, Adekunle Gold transformed his sound from the cool guy vibe to the upbeat Afropop sound, changed his look and started keeping the Bob Marley style, Changed his name to “AG Baby”, and began a whole New transformation in his life and music. On 21st of August 2020, He Released his third Studio Album ‘Afro Pop Vol. 1’,  which featured songs like “Pretty girl, Something Different, My Ex,  AG baby”

Adekunle Gold’s fourth Studio Album was released on the 4 February 2022, titled “Catch Me If You Can” containing 14 tracks, with songs like;

These tracks were the hits of the album, “Sinner” featured his wife Simi as the video Vixen and got International recognition, even to the point that Americans were performing a cover of the song.

The Album had guest appearances from Davido, Fatoumata Diawara, Lucky Daye, Stefflon Don, Foushee, and TY Dolla $ign.

The album, “Catch Me If You Can” was the best of Adekunle Gold and music production and credits went to, Seyifunmi, Davayo, Rymez, Lekka, TMXO, Tay Iwar, Blaise Beatz, Kali, Que Beats, and Spax.

Adekunle Gold has Indeed made his mark in the music industry and he not only sings and writes but most recently, he also produces and act as a sound engineer for his songs. He continues to release songs even after the release of his 4th studio album, he recently released “Five star” which is buzzing the air round the world.

Adekunle Gold was accused  of infidelity with a popular video vixen, Teminikan.

It  was first mentioned on the 21th of  March 2021, by a popular blogger known as “GistLover”, who released a photo of the video vixen on her blog’s Instagram page warning her to stay away from him.

Screenshots later posted on the blogger’s Instagram page on the same day both confirmed the blogger’s accusation and even implied that his wife Simi was aware of her husband’s infidelities. But the issue quickly died down without any major action from Simi or Adekunle Gold.

Adekunle Gold was also slammed for staring at the BBNAIJA 1st runner up “Liquorose” in a sexy manner and fans went wild with him, insisting that a married man should not be seen looking at other women like that.
