He later registered for the mandatory one year NYSC to serve his country but unfortunately could not complete it because of his world tour that year.

and became the second song on his debut Studio Album “Omo baba olowo” released in 2012, it won multiple awards, including, Best R&B/Pop Album, was nominated for Best Album in 2013 by the Headies award and The Nigerian Entertainment Award and eventually helped him to win the Headies next rated artiste in 2012.

The “Omo baba Olowo”  album set his career and gave him a sense of identity among Nigerians who quickly attributed Davido’s success to his Father’s Wealth, because “Omo baba Olowo means, A Child whose father is Rich”, ignoring the fact that Davido actually put in the work to achieve great success. This impression about him is what Davido tries to address in his songs, highlighting that although he had help from his father, he still puts in a great deal of work to rise to the height he is today and that spurred him to continue to drop back to back hits, maintaining his place as one of the top Nigerian musician.

In January 2016, Davido signed a $1 million record deal with Sony music, a deal that set him on the record as being the first African to sign a record deal with a global record label.
