Simisola Bolatito Kosoko nee Ogunleye also known as Simi is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress accredited for her numerous love songs and Lovely voice which has a unique twist of R&B Melody and a ting of Yoruba accent to spice to it.
Simi blends Afrobeats and R&B to create her own unique sound in Soul, Afropop and alternative rock music. Simi rose to stardom in 2014 with her hit single “Tiff” and was nominated for Best alternative Music at the Headies award 2015, and she featured as one of the Judges for the prestigious Nigeria Idol music show in 2022.
Simi is invariably among the Best Female artiste in Nigeria, apart from the likes of Tiwa Savage, Waje, Yemi Alade and Omawumi. Her song “Love don’t care” won the Best Vocal performance of the year in 2017. She is loved by all because of the beautiful Melody in her songs, her ability to switch between Pigin (local Nigerian English), Yoruba and English. Early life; how old is Simi?
Simi was born in April 19, 1988 in Ojuelegba, in the Surulere area of Lagos State, Nigeria. To the family of Late Mr. Charles Oladele and Mrs. Jedidiah Ogunleye; now Mrs. Akinlade, her parents got a divorced when she was 9 years old and she went on to live with her mother, simi is the last child and only girl of 4 children.
After her formatives years in an elite nursery and Primary School, she attended Stars International College for her secondary Education in Ikorodu Lagos and later gained admission into Covenant University to study Mass Communication.
Simi’s love for music spurred from the early age of 10 when she joined her local church choir and she went on to Produce music professional in 2006. Because of her background, she started with Gospel music and her first album “Ogaju” was a Gospel Album, it had songs like “Iya Temi and “Ara ile” Produced by Samklef.
The 34 year old singer switched to mainstream Afripop after her hit single “Tiff” in 2014 which received lots of positive feedback and was nominated for Best alternative song by the Headies award 2015.
Simi brought her Unique twist to the Nigerian music scene with her sonorous vocals and in 2016 she released another hit single “Jamb questions” which she later did a Remix with “Falz” the rapper. For most people, Simi’s Collaborations with Falz was the peak of her career, the duo brought a beautiful Chemistry in their music, that gave people the impression that they were in a relationship especially after they released “Chemistry” a song where they talked about their relationship together and how they understand that people want them to date, Falz said in his rap lyrics ” If we no date, oh he go cause trouble” they went on to Produce more beautiful love songs together but Simi and Falz Never Dated.
Simi is also known for singing of covers by Popular Female musician like Adele & Rihanna. And in 2014, she released a 5 track Extented Play (EP) titled “Restless” made up of covers.
After her rise to stardom, she was signed to Xtreme (X3M) Music in 2014, she released her second Studio Album “Simisola” in September 8, 2017, it debuted 5th position on the Billboard World Album chart and it featured songs like “Gone for Good” “Smile for me” “Joromi” and more, She went on to Produce more songs under Xtreme Music
Simi’s third Studio Album “Omo Charlie Champagne Vol 1” was released in April 19 2019, to coincide with her 31st birthday celebration and the album tracks diverted from her usual relatively afro-centric feel of her previous album, it was a mixture of sentimental Ballad, Afro-soul and R&B fusion with songs like, “I Dun Care”, “Ayo” “Login” and many more.
It also featured other Great Vocal artiste like her husband, Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, Maleek Berry and Falz. The 13 track Album was dedicated to her Father Charles Oladele Ogunleye who passed away in 2014. It was produced primarily by Oscar, assisted by other producers like Legendary beatz, Vtek and Sess.
Simi became the first Nigerian female musician to reach 100 million streams on Audiomack for her single “Tiff” in 2014.
In May 2019 after the expiration of her contract with X3M Music, both parties (Simi and the record label) decided not to renew the contract and parted ways, Simi, in an interview poured praise for X3M Music most especially her boss Steve Baboeko who she said became a father to her during her work with them.
Simi later launched her record label, Studio Brat, in June 2019. And produced her first song “Duduke” in her Record label, the song enjoyed massive publicity because it was about the Love Simi has for her unborn child (she was pregnant at the time), the song soon turned into a challenge for most Nigerian who used it to Serenade their unborn children. Duduke became one of the most popular songs of 2020.
Simi released another EP in 2020 ” Restless II” a part two of the initial Restless EP released in 2014. Simi won the Best Afripop artist ( Female category) in 2020 at the All African music Award for Restless II.
In 2022, Simi released her 4th Studio Album “To be honest”. The 11 track Album featured artistes like Deja, Fave, and Adekunle Gold. It contained songs like, “Naked wire”, “Balance” “Loyal” and more.
Simi recently reach 100million streams on Boomplay, making her the first Female artist to to so and she is nominated for Best Female at the 2022 MTV African Music Award and voting has begun.

Simi has over the years enjoyed success in her career in music and most recently acting, as she featured in the Kunle Afolayan all Yoruba actors movie “Makalik” in 2019, where she played the role of “Simi” the Buka owners daughter.
Simi is said to worth about $2milion and her major source of income is music, as well as being a sound engineer, she is said to have being responsible for mixing and mastering Adekunle Gold debut studio album “Gold” in 2016.
She charges around 1.5 to 3 million naira per show.
She also has a number of endorsement deals including,
