Folarin Falana aka FALZ D BAHD GUY, is a Nigerian Songwriter, Rapper and Actor. He came into limelight after his first hit single “Ello Bae” released in 2015. He continued to sing and rap and released a series of songs with fellow artiste “Simi” which filled the airways and paved way for both Artiste, especially after the release of  “Jamb question” and “Soldier” released in 2016.

In 2017 they released an Extended Play together, titled “Chemistry”.

In 2016 Falz ventured into acting and began featuring in the Funke Akindele comedy series show “Jenifa’s diary” and played the role of “Segun”  aka “Sege” a fellow saloon worker in love with Jenifa.

Folarin Falana aka Falz was born October 27, 1990 in Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria into the family of Barrister Femi and Barrister Mrs Fummi Falana, his both parents are not just lawyers but human rights activist as well. His father is a known name in the Nigerian legal industry.

Falz attended St Leo’s Catholic primary school, Ikeja Lagos and proceeded to Olashore International school, Osun State for his Secondary Education. He gained admission into the University of Reading, England and obtained an LLB degree in Law just like his parents. It will interest you to note that Falz wasn’t forced to study Law, it was entirely his decision to become a lawyer, but along the way, life happened.

He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2012 after having attended the Abuja law school.


Having studied law and called to the Nigerian Bar, Falz is by Profession a Lawyer, and he actually practiced law for a while before finally deciding to chase his hubby turned passion.

Falz was exposed to music at a very early age and his spark for music started while in secondary school, he started a band with some of his friends called ” The school boys” and they went on to records some songs. Songs that Falz would eventually release as his First Mixtape titled “Shakara” in 2009

In 2011, Falz released a single titled “Wazup Guy”, and then again released “High Class” & “Currency”, which gained him recognition in the Nigerian music Scene.

On May 30th 2014, Falz released his first studio album ” Wazup Guy” the 18 track contained songs like, “See Me”, “Toyin Tomato”, “Senator”,  “Jessica”, “High Class”, “Marry Me”, “Oh God”, “Right now”. Marry me, featuring Yemi Alade and Poe broke the airways and gave Falz more traction in the music industry, it won him a nomination for the Best collaboration of the year by the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, Best Rap Act of the year, as well as Best New Act to watch out for.

In 2015, Falz finally became widely known in Nigeria, after the release of his hit single “Ello Bae” which was his first solo single after his first Album and you can say Falz was very strategic in releasing it, as he released it just before Valentine’s season.

The song cemented his reputation in the Nigerian music industry and gave a nomination as the Best street Hop Artist of the year by the Headies Award in 2015.

His second studio Album “Stories that touch” was released on the 17th of November 2015. The album won him best Album of the year at the City people’s Award of 2016.

In 2016, Falz was featured by  Simi in “Jamb Question” a song where he showcased his rapping abilities and again cemented him in the hearts of Nigerian as the song was a huge success and both Artiste went on to release more songs together including “Soldier”,  they produced an EP titled “Chemistry” in 2017.

 The hit song in the album “Chemistry” sparked the interest of their fans who couldn’t help but love the combo of Falz and Simi together as they both had a beautiful spark in their music and voice and had almost the same unique attribute of mixture of English with Yoruba in their songs.

But to the disappointment of their fans they never dated.

Falz won the Africa Magic Viewer choice Award for his role as Segun in the Funke Akindele comedy series “Jenifa’s Diary”,  He also won the Viewer’s Choice Best New International Act” at the 2016 BET Awards in 2016.

Falz third Studio Album ” 27 ” was released in October  2017. He released the album to mark his 27th birthday and featured Artiste like, Burna boy, Davido, Wande coal, Mr Eazi and Maleek Berry. It was a 17 track Album that took fans by surprise because it was not announced before hand but was a special album to celebrate “Falz at 27” and it contained tracks like “Bhad Baddo Baddest”, “Something light” and “Weldon sir”.

The album won him a couple of nominations and awards including, The Headies Award for Best Rap Album of the Year.


Falz, over the years has been known as an activist (just like his parents) and he has used his social media platforms to talk about problems facing the common man in Nigeria and even addresses these problems through his songs. In May of 2018, he released his Nigerian version of Childish Gambino’s” This is America” in a song he titled, “This is Nigeria” where he addressed the many of Nigeria’s problem including Corruption, Terrorism, Politician impunity, and unemployment.

The song made the rounds in Nigeria and was loved by all but was later banned by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission NBC for use of Vulgar words. Falz later sue the NBC for 100million naira, insisting there was no Vulgar words in the song. The Muslim society also criticized Falz for using girls dressed in hijab in the music video and threatened to sue him.

In 2019, Falz released his fourth Studio Album “Moral instructions”. The 9 track Album addressed societal issues from Corruption, Police Brutality,  and Prostitution.

It contained songs like, “Talk, Johnny, Brothers keeper, Amen, Paper” and many more. The Sess produced Album won Best Rap Album of the year at the 2019 Headies  Award.

In 2020, Falz played a key role during the “Endsars Protest” by airing his views openly, calling on other artiste to join in the fight to end police brutality  and till date he is the only celebrity who hasn’t changed his Instagram display picture from the flag covered in blood to depict those who lost their lives during the Lekki toll gate massacre. Falz released the music video for “Johnny”  the first single from his last album, (Moral instruction) He wrote in the post while introducing the song, “We will never forget the heroes that have been unlawfully slain. This is, for them!

He recently deleted all his post on Instagram and told his fans that he wanted to start afresh.

Falz recently released his fifth studio album” BAHD” in August of 2022. The album is a diversion from Falz usually activist mood, because more of the songs are danceable tunes that will bring vibe to the party. “Inside” is one of the songs, he featured Timaya and Mavins lastest signed Boy Spyce. He also featured Chike and Osas Igodahoro in “Knee down”.

He stopped acting in Jenifa’s diary and was recently interviewed as to why. In an interview with Inkblot’s Meet & Greet, Falz said he stopped being on the show due to the schedule, and timing of shooting which were not comfortable with him.

He said, “If I could be on the show every single episode, I would but it’s just schedule, timing, shooting.

Falz unveiled his film production company in 2020 called House21TV, and has released his first comedy series “Therapy” on YouTube.
