A Chief Magistrate Court in the Ekiti State capital yesterday ordered the remand of lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, in prison over the alleged defamation of senior advocate of Nigeria, Baba Lola. Farotimi was accused of authoring and publishing a book titled Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, which allegedly accused the founder of Afe Babalola University of corrupting the Supreme Court to secure a favorable judgment in a case involving one of his clients.
Farotimi faced a 16-count charge but pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him in court. The Chief Magistrate, ABI Adan, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Center until Tuesday, December 10, 2024, when the court will hear Farotimi’s bail application.
